Top-seed Oklahoma City eliminates Lady Hawks in NAIA First Round
Jackson, Tenn. - Starr Fairbanks scored 22 points and Holly Hardin added 20 to lead No. 6-ranked and top-seeded Oklahoma City University to a 71-49 victory over eighth-seeded Shorter College in the first round of the 2010 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship at Oman Arena in Jackson, Tenn. The Lady Hawks (22-10), one of 16 at-large selections into the field, were making their second-ever appearance in the national tournament, but were simply unable to keep up with the Stars (30-3), who continue on to the Sweet 16 in search of their sixth national championship and first since a run of four straight titles from 1999-2002. Baseball Hawks split with Mid-Continent in non-conference twin bill
Rome, Ga. - Tyler McIntosh hit an RBI double that ignited a four-run fifth inning and helped Shorter College rally from a three-run deficit en route to a 7-3 victory over Mid-Continent University in game two of a double-header at Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex in Rome, Ga., on Tuesday afternoon. The nightcap victory allowed the Hawks to salvage a split with Mid-Continent, which topped Shorter, 9-1, in game one. No. 21 Lady Hawks claim Berry College Invitational title
Rome, Ga. - The Shorter College women's golf team fired a tournament-low 316 in Tuesday's final round to surge ahead of the field and take first place at the Berry College Invitational held at Coosa Country Club in Rome, Ga. The No. 21-ranked Lady Hawks, who took first at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational at Stonebridge Golf Club back in October, finished 12 strokes ahead of second-place University of the Cumberlands, the 19th-ranked team in the country, in the 15-team event held at the par-72, 6,011-yard course.
