March 19, 2008 Cleveland, Ohio - In the National Association of Collegiate Directors of America's (NACDA) Winter #1 Director's Cup Standings, Shorter College is ranked 46th out of the nearly 300 NAIA schools in the country. The Director's Cup ranking is decided on a point system from how well all of the schools' sports place in the regional and national tournaments. Shorter has compiled 153 points to date in the rankings, with points coming from both men's and women's indoor track, men's cross country and women's volleyball. Cross-town rival Berry College is ranked 84th with 100 points. Atop the rankings is Simon Fraser with 618 points. "This ranking is a testament to both Shorter's coaches and the college's student-athletes," said Shorter College Athletic Director Bill Peterson. " It is a reflection of the tradition that Ricci Lattanzi has established over the years, and also of Dr. Harold Newman's leadership and his support for athletics. We are certainly optimistic about Shorter's future and we will not be happy until we are at the top of that list." The highest ranking Shorter has received in the year-end ranking was 60th, which came in the 2001-02 season. Last year, Shorter finished 87th with 182 points. |
