Shorter will host Truett-McConnell at Robert H. Ledbetter on Friday and Saturday

Feb. 8, 2010

Beaufort, S.C. - Shorter College's Kurtis Robinson went 2-for-4 and Clint Harkins hit a two-RBI double to help the Hawks jump out to a 3-1 lead after one-and-a-half innings, but host University of South Carolina-Beaufort answered with 10 runs over the next five innings to cruise to a 14-3 victory over Shorter in non-conference baseball action.

The Hawks fell behind 1-0 after the first frame, but Harkins laced a two-run double and Robinson followed several batters later with an RBI single to stake Shorter a two-run advantage.

The Sand Sharks scored three in their half of the second inning, added two more runs in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead and got a three-run homer from Spencer Jackson to spark a five-run sixth inning that put the hosts ahead 11-3.

Shorter chased USCB starter Adam Miller after two innings, but Sand Sharks' reliever Spencer Cromer scattered three hits and struck out five in five innings of scoreless work.

The Hawks (0-4) return to Rome for their home opening series on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12 and 13. Shorter will host Truett-McConnell College at Robert H. Ledbetter Field with game one of the series coming on Friday at 2 p.m.
