Rome, Ga. - The Shorter College Hawks baseball team split two games with the Southern Wesleyan Warriors on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 3-2 and falling in the second game 10-9. Shorter now sits at 7-9 overall (1-2 in the Southern States Athletic Conference), while Southern Wesleyan is now 5-14 overall (2-3 SSAC).

Game 1

In the first game, the Hawks had seven hits to the Warriors' eight. Matt Johnson hit the game-winning two-RBI double in the bottom of sixth inning to give Shorter the 3-2 victory.

Joey Taylor finished the the game 2-for-2 with a runs, and Scott Morris was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

JP Griffin (2-1) pitcked up the win, pitching the complete game with seven strikeouts and two walks. Southern Wesleyan's Matt Cape was the losing pitcher.

Game 2

In the second game, the Hawks looked all but out heading into the final seventh inning down 10-3. However, with bases loaded, Shannon Houston hit a grand slam to the Hawks and two more runs nearly made the come back complete, but Shorter fell 10-9 in the end.

Pat Langley was a perfect 4-for-4 in the game with three runs and an RBI, and Gustavo Bonilla was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Houston finished 2-for-2 wit a run and five RBI.

Blake Chapman (2-1) got the loss to Shorter, pitching the first two innings, giving up one hits, one earned run and striking out three. Matthew Large got the win and Robert Caldwell got the save.

The Hawks play again Tuesday as they travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., for a double-header against Tennessee Temple University.
