Marietta, Ga. - The No. 7 Southern Poly baseball blanked Shorter 10-0 in the opener of a doubleheader, then fought off the upset-minded Hawks with a 4-3 win that was settled in the Hornets' final at-bat.

Shorter was held to just four hits in its opener against Southern Poly as Tom Bradley pitched all six innings of the run-ruled contest as the Hornets (21-3, 8-1) scored four runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and sealed the win with four more in the sixth.

In the nightcap, the Hawks (7-15, 2-7) tied the game 3-3 in the top of the seventh inning thanks to a two-run hit by Dustan Cantrell. But saw Poly closed out the sweep by scoring the winning run with one out in the bottom of the stanza.

Jarrod Lewis and Jake Broome led the Hawks at the plate with two hits each.

Shorter hosts Tennessee Temple today at 1 p.m. for a non-conference twinbill.
