Dustin Bowers pitched the first game for Shorter

Mt. Berry, Ga. - In the annual cross-town showdown between the Shorter College Hawks and Berry College Vikings baseball teams, Berry got the best of the Hawks, taking game one, 5-0, followed by a shortened 10-0 game.

In the first game, Shorter (9-11, 1-4) had four hits to Berry's (18-4, 5-1) eight - with the Hawks' coming from Jake Broome, Shannon Houson, Gustavo Bonilla and Tyler McIntosh. The Vikings scored all five runs in two innings - three in the third and two in the fifth.

Dustin Bowers pitched the complete game for Shorter, in his first loss of the season (2-1). He gave up three earned runs and struck out eight. Berry's Scott Pollock got the shutout win.

The second game ended in the sixth inning as Berry produced five runs to put their lead at ten. The Hawks had three hits in the game - coming from Adam Pilate, Pat Langley, and Matt Johnson.

Berry got on the board with four runs in the third inning, and added one more in the fourth before ending things in the sixth.

JP Griffin picked up the loss for Shorter (2-2), giving up 12 hits, nine earned runs and striking out two. Trent Hills for the win for Berry.

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
