Matt Johnson went 2-for-5 with an RBI in Shorter's 7-6 loss to Berry

March 19, 2010

Rome, Ga. - Mitch Terry hit an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to lift Berry College to a 7-6 victory over Shorter College at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex on Friday afternoon.

The Hawks, who had won three of their last four games, drop to 12-15 overall while the Vikings improve to 12-9.

Shorter used a two-run single from Scott Morris and scored another run on a Vikings' error in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead, but the visitors responded with five runs over the next two frames, getting two-run doubles from Brock Anderson and Cory Kirkland to take a 5-3 lead after three-and-a-half complete.

The Hawks knotted the game at 5-all in the bottom of the fourth as Joey Taylor belted an RBI double and later scored on a Matt Johnson base hit. Both teams scratched in the eighth to set the stage for Terry's two-out, RBI base knock in the ninth.

The Hawks got a Garrett Burgess two-out single in an attempt to rally in their half of the ninth, but Morris was forced into a pop out as Berry emerged victorious.

Burgess finished 3-for-5 for the Hawks while Johnson and Joseph Brooks each recorded a pair of hits. Hawks' starter Tim Day went 8.0 innings and struck out nine. Of the six runs he allowed, only two were earned.

Shorter and Berry will conclude their three-game, non-conference series tomorrow, Saturday, March 20 with a double-header beginning at 12 p.m.
