Athens, Ga. - The Shorter College Hawks baseball team scored six runs in the third inning and never looked back, as they beat the Emmanuel College Lions on Monday afternoon in a run-shortened seven-inning 16-5 ballgame. The Hawks improve to 15-20 overall, and 5-11 in the tough SSAC.

After the big third inning, the Hawks capitalized again in the next inning scoring an additional five runs to take the 11-0 lead. After the Hawks went up by 13 in the sixth inning, Emmanuel put four runs on the board in the bottom of the same inning but could never come close to Shorter's offensive output, as the Hawks went on to win the game.

Shorter had 15 hits in the game led by Gustavo Bonilla who went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, and Scott Morris, who was 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles and an RBI. Will Davis tacked on two hits, a run, and four RBIs, while Pat Langley was 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs.

Matt Kirksey got the win for Shorter, pitching six innings, giving up six hits and four runs, while striking out six. Garrett Raiden pitched the final inning in relief for Shorter.

The Hawks continue play on Tuesday as they travel to non-conference Covenant College for a 1 p.m. double-header.
