Hawks baseball take 13-3 loss to Faulker

Rome, Ga. - Despite an 11-hit ballgame for the Shorter College Hawks baseball team, the Faulkner University Eagles put 13 runs on the board compared to Shorter's three to take the first in a three-game series at the Ledbetter Complex on Friday afternoon. Two seven-inning competitions will be played tomorrow in Shorter's last home games of the season beginning at 1 p.m.

Faulkner put six runs on the board in the first six innings before Shorter scored in the bottom of the sixth. Gustavo Bonilla was hit-by-pitch to start the inning, advanced on a stolen base and ground out, and then scored the Hawks' first run on a David Hornback RBI single. Shannon Houston later hit an RBI single up the middle to score Hornback making it a 6-2 ballgame.

Shorter's final run came in the bottom of the next inning. Scott Morris started things out with a double to deep left field and scored on a Bonilla ground out. The visiting Eagles rebounded with a one-run eighth and ended the game with a huge six-run final ninth inning to make it a 13-3 ballgame.

Shorter had 11 hits to Faulkner's 18, and left 12 men on base in the game. Jake Broome went a perfect 4-for-4 on the day, followed by Scott Morris who was 3-for-5 with a run scored.

Adam Pilate got the loss the the Hawks, pitching the first five innings for 11 hits, six earned runs, one strikeout and one walk. Faulkner's Mike Zenko got the win.


The Hawks will be celebrating Senior Day in between the two games on Saturday.
