Montgomery, Ala. - In their last conference series of the season, the Shorter College Hawks baseball team took a 16-5 loss to the Senators of Auburn-Montgomery on Thursday night in a shortened seven-inning game. The series continues tomorrow with a double-header at 1 p.m.

The Senators (30-19, 16-9 SSAC) took the early 4-0 lead after two outings with three runs in the first inning and one run in the second inning. After a scoreless third, Shorter put their first runs up in the top of the fourth inning. Back-to-back solo home runs from Gustavo Bonilla and Shannon Houston cut AUM's lead in half to make it a 4-2 ballgame.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, AUM scored four runs and added two more in the next inning to take the 10-2 lead.

Bonilla scored one more run for Shorter (18-29, 7-18 SSAC) in the top of the sixth inning, on an RBI single from Will Davis. Houston then delivered up another home run for Shorter in the seventh inning, with Bonilla on base, to put Shorter a little closer at 10-5.

Six runs from AUM in the bottom of the seventh inning enforced the run rule to end the game 16-5.

Bonilla was 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, and Houston was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs.

Starting pitcher Dustin Bowers picked up the loss for the Hawks, pitching 3.1 innings, for seven hits, four earned runs and two walks. AUM's Stephen Yates got the win for the Senators.
