Columbus, Ga. - Shorter College junior Matt Johnson was named to the All-SSAC first team, Kurtis Robinson picked up second team All-SSAC honors and 11 Hawks earned All-Academic recognition as announced by the Southern States Athletic Conference at its annual pre-tournament banquet on Wednesday night in Columbus, Ga.

The Hawks (23-30), seeded sixth in the eight-team, double-elimination conference tournament, open bracket play tomorrow, Thursday, April 29 at 1 p.m. against third-seeded and No. 18-ranked Southern Poly State University (45-9), but Wednesday evening belonged to Johnson.

The SSAC's top hitter, Johnson opened the season on a 10-game hitting streak and never really cooled off, finishing the regular season with a blistering .441 average with a team-high 41 RBI. He also led the Hawks in hits (78), doubles (20) and slugging percentage (.565).

Robinson, Shorter's second team selection, was solid all year long for head coach Matt Larry's Hawks. The switch-hitting second baseman posted a .351 average with five homers and 40 RBI. He added 10 doubles and was a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts this season.

Johnson and Robinson were not only standouts on the diamond, but off as well, as each player was one of the 11 named to the SSAC's All-Academic team.

Shorter's 11 All-Academic representatives was tops of any team in the SSAC. In addition to Johnson and Robinson, Shorter's honorees included Ross Ballard, Beau Dahlke, Clint Harrison, Andrew Livingston, Zeke Owen, Adam Pilate, J.D. Price, Ben Stell and Adam Thurman.
