Mt. Berry, Ga. - In Chad Warner's first game as head coach, and Shorter College's first men's basketball game of the season, the Hawks downed the Bryan College Lions, 75-73, in the Berry Classic at Berry College on Friday night.

The Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the Hawks to start off the first half. Shorter never let down their guard though, as they came back to tie it at 12 with 15 minutes left on a Darius Williams two-pointer. The Hawks only lost the lead twice before closing out the half ahead, 40-39.

After a close ten minutes to start out the second half, Shorter saw their lead give way with 9:55 left in the game. Down by four, the Hawks' Jamie Walker, Fred Christopher, Tomas Pranciliauskas, and Kedric Wilson combined for eight points to put the Hawks back up, 68-66, with 3:34 on the clock. Closing shots from Montagious Brown, Christopher, A.J. Martin and Larry Savage gave the Hawks the advantage and the win, 75-73.

Wilson closed the game with 19 points and Jairus Jackson followed with 13 points. Christopher had four rebounds in the win and Jackson had five assists.

The Hawks (1-0) will continue play at the Berry Classic tomorrow at 4 p.m. as they take on the University of Virginia-Wise.
