Atlanta, Ga. - Shorter College junior forward Marqise Wright has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his outstanding play during last week's action.

It is the first such honor for Wright, who has been nothing short of spectacular for the Hawks this season.

Wright, who hails from Gainesville, Ga., averaged a double-double of 18.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in the Hawks' two contests at Auburn University-Montgomery on Jan. 11 and at Emmanuel College (Ga.) on Jan. 14. He also added 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per game over that two-game span.

Against AUM, Wright knocked down four three-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points in 33 minutes of action.

At Emmanuel, Wright posted his 12th double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while also reaching double figures in the scoring column for the 11th time in his last 12 games.

For the season, Wright is averaging better than 14 points and 11 rebounds per game - he ranks third in the entire country in rebounding average (11.7).
