Atlanta, Ga. - Shorter College junior forward Marqise Wright has been named Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league offices late Monday afternoon.

Wright garnered the honor for the second consecutive week and for the third time this season with arguably his best week of the season.

Wright averaged 26.0 points, 16.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists as the Hawks went 1-1 against SSAC foes Auburn-Montgomery and Faulkner on Feb. 4 and Feb. 6, respectively.

He scored a career-high 34 points in addition to pulling down 21 rebounds, handing out five assists and recording two blocks against AUM. The 21 rebounds were one off of his career-high and at one point late in the second half, Wright scored 13 of his team's 15 points.

He posted his seventh straight double-double and 17th double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 boards in the Hawks' come-from-behind win over Faulkner on Saturday.

Wright hit the game-winning free throw with 0.4 seconds left in Shorter's 67-66 win over Tennessee Temple on Monday night and finished with 12 points and 15 rebounds, his 18th double-double of the season.

He is averaging just under 16 points and a shade under 13 rebounds this season and is strong contender for SSAC Player of the Year.

Wright and the Hawks return to SSAC action on Thursday, Feb. 11 when they travel to No. 12 Southern Polytechnic State University for an 8 p.m. tip.
