Atlanta, Ga. - For his performances in the second to last week of the regular season, Shorter College Hawks basketball center Qavotstaraj Waddell has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week, for games against Berry College and Southern Wesleyan University.

Shooting an impressive 87.5% from the field in the two games, Waddell totaled 33 points and 25 rebounds. Against Berry, he registered a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, tacking on five blocks and two assists. In the best game of his Shorter career against Southern Wesleyan (in which the Hawks won 82-76), he shot a near-perfect 11-for-12, with 23 points and 13 rebounds, and once again added five blocks.

"'Q' brings a toughness to the interior of our defense and is a formidable match-up for anyone on the inside," said Shorter head coach Chad Warner. "The best thing is that he's continued to heal from surgery all season, he's been shooting manageable shots, and he's playing good basketball. Hopefully, he'll play hard and we'll get more of the same from him heading into the conference tournament."

The Hawks are 14-14 on the season, and sitting at fourth place in the SSAC standings with a 9-7 record. They finish their regular season out this week with two games at home, beginning Thursday at 8 p.m. against Reinhardt and Saturday at 4 p.m. against Lee.
