Cooley sets school record as Shorter bests Belhaven, 55-42
Jackson, Miss. - A.J. Cooley rushed for a school-record 254 yards and four touchdowns to lead Shorter to a wild 55-42 victory over host Belhaven College in Mid-South West Division football action on Saturday afternoon in Jackson, Miss. Cooley's performance bested his 249-yard, four TD effort in a win over NCAA Division II North Greenville last season, and leaves him with 3,992 career rushing yards, just eight away from 4,000. His four scores give him 17 rushing touchdowns on the year, four shy of his school-record 21 TD campaign in 2008. MORE [+]

Jackson, Miss. - Over the past five years, the Shorter College football team has ridden a wave of success. However, it may be the lowest point in their brief history that could be remembered most as the defining moment for the Hawks. In the wake of a 14-13, upset loss in the closing seconds to Mid-South Conference West Division foe Cumberland (Tenn.) University last Saturday at a rain-soaked Barron Stadium, an outcome that dashed Shorter's hopes of repeating as Division champions and securing a second-straight berth in the NAIA playoffs, the Hawks are going back to their origins. Nov. 14 football game with Bethel moved to 1:30 p.m.
Rome, Ga. - Shorter College's final football game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Barron Stadium against Bethel College has been moved from 7 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. the schools announced today. That weekend serves as Hall of Fame Weekend on the Hill, and the change in time could provide an opportunity for those in attendance of the Hall of Fame induction banquet on Friday, Nov. 13 to attend the final Saturday of 2009 Shorter football, as the Hawks try to secure their fourth consecutive winning season in just their fifth year as a program.
