Rome, Ga. - In the Shorter College Hawks football team's annual Blue and White spring scrimmage game, the white team emerged victorious over the blue team, 10-7, on a 32-yard field goal from kicker Jesse McGee, at Barron Stadium in Rome. The annual game marks the end of spring practice for the Hawks, as they now await the start of the 2009 season.

The first half saw the only scoring in the game as strong defense was prevalent on both sides of the ball. The only touchdown pass in the first quarter came from the arm of Ben Williams, as he reached T.C. Jay for 27 yards for the white team to take the 7-0 lead.

At the beginning of the second quarter, a 65-yard aerial strike from David Byrd to Allen Huntley tied the game up at 7-7.

The winning score came late in the second quarter for the blue team, as McGee hit a 32-yard field goal to make it a 10-7 game.

Strong defensive performances from the blue team came from Drew Elrod, who had a interception in the game, and last year's MSC Western Division Player of the Year Logan Lollis. From the white team, newcomer Josh Hines, from Rom High, made a difference.

The Hawks will return to practice in August, and their 2009 schedule will be released later this month.
