Louisville, Ky. - Shorter College sophomore Daniel Hazard has been named the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

The defensive back from East Providence, R.I. tallied a game-high 16 total tackles - five solo and 11 assisted - and a pass break up in the Hawks' 21-14 loss to NCAA Division II Lenoir-Rhyne on Aug. 29 in Hickory, N.C.

The honor is the first for Hazard and the first Defensive Player of the Week award for Shorter since Logan Lollis earned the title on Oct. 27, 2008.

The Hawks are off this Saturday, but return to action on Saturday, Sept. 12 when they host LaGrange College in the latest installment of The Battle for the Governor's Cup.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
