Louisville, Ky. - Shorter College football's A.J. Cooley has been named Mid-South Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Cooley had another game for over 200 yards this season, tallying 249 rushing on 27 carries, one of which was a 99-yard run breaking the record he previously held for longest rush.

"A.J. is a team player and that really showed on Saturday," said Shorter head coach Phil Jones. "It is great to see him honored in this way. He and the linemen have a real connection, and I hope their combined confidence will carry through to the rest of the season."

After Saturday's game, he has 986 total rushing yards on the year, which beats the previous single season rushing record held since 2005 by Fabian Daniel (781 yards). Cooley also had four touchdowns in the game which ties the Shorter College record held since 2005.

Cooley is second in the Mid-South and third in the country in rushing offense, averaging 140.3 yards per game. With 11 touchdowns on the season, he ranks 11th in the NAIA in scoring (TD).

Shorter is 5-2 this season and is tied for third at 1-1 in the MSC West Division. After a big win on Saturday over North Greenville, the Hawks have an early game this week as Union College visits Rome on Thursday for a 7 p.m. kick-off at Barron Stadium.
