Along with Shorter College's increased football reputation in the NAIA, head coach Phil Jones is gaining one of his own.

Jones was invited to the 2007 Nike Coach of the Year Clinic in Atlanta in February to speak a session on "Coaching Special Teams." The clinics, held every year at 20 sites around the country, are designed for coaches at all levels of football to learn from experts in various fields of football play.

"It is an honor to be asked to teach other coaches what I was taught by others better than me," said Jones. "To tell others about the things we are doing with our program has been great to spread to others in Georgia about Shorter football."

After the clinic, Coaches Choice, one of the world's largest publishers of sport coaching instruction books and videos, was so impressed with Jones and comments received from others about his session that they asked him to appear in a video on the things he had taught. The video will be sold nationwide as part of Coaches Choice's special teams football campaign.

"Phil is not only a great coach, but also a great teacher," said Shorter College athletic director Bill Peterson. "He is one of the best coaches I have ever come across, and everyone would do well by taking some of his advice on coaching."
