Louisville, Ky. - Shorter College senior fullback A.J. Cooley has been named the Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league offices Monday afternoon.

Cooley, Shorter's all-time leading rusher, rushed for 206 yards and three touchdowns on a school-record 40 carries to lead the Hawks to an impressive 56-41 victory at Union (Ky.) College on Oct. 24.

His performance marked the fifth time in his career that he has surpassed the 200-yard plateau in a game, and kept him atop the Mid-South rushing charts with 974 yards.

The Bowden, Ga., native also leads the conference in yards per game (121.8), rushing touchdowns (12) and scoring with 15 total touchdowns.

His numbers are not only making a mark on the league lists, but are also making dents in the national leader board.

As part of the nation's No. 1 rushing attack at 318.8 yards per game, Cooley ranks third in the NAIA in total scoring, fourth in scoring per game, fourth in total rushing yards and eighth in all-purpose yards per game, accounting for 168.1 yards of offense per outing.

Shorter (5-3, 2-1 Mid-South) has won two straight heading into its Western Division showdown with Cumberland (Tenn.) University (3-5, 1-2 Mid-South). The Hawks lead the all-time series 4-0, but needed a field goal in the waning moments to upend the Bulldogs last season in Tennessee.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Barron Stadium. That day, Shorter will honor its six conference championship teams from the 2008-09 athletic year as part of Championship Saturday.
