Towson, Md. - In the CoSIDA ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Football teams announced today, Shorter College defensive backs Budd Keith and Will Oliver have been named to the District 3 College Division First Team. These are the first two Shorter College athletes that have received such recognition.

"I am so proud of both of them," said Shorter football head coach Phil Jones. "It is certainly not a surprise as they are very deserving of the honor. They approach everything with complete commitment and are very humble in everything they do. These are two of the finest and self-motivated Christian men on our team."

Keith and Oliver were 2-of-the-4 defensive backs from the district named to the list. Keith is a senior from Toccoa, Ga. with a 3.93 GPA and a double major in mathematics and economics. Oliver is also a senior from Toccoa, with 3.71 GPA and majoring in computer information systems.

The two will now move on to the ballot for possible selection on the prestigious Academic All-America team. It is one of the only awards of its kind in the nation that awards both on-the-field excellence and in-the-classroom performance in a single award.

Other notable names making the list from the District 3 University Division include Tim Tebow from Florida, Jamon Meredith from South Carolina and Jake Blackwood from Georgia Tech.

To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Additionally, nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at a specific position, and must have completed one full calendar year at the current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.

The voting period for the national All-American ballot begins on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
