Louisville, Ky. - Shorter College senior fullback A.J. Cooley has been named the Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league offices Monday afternoon.

It is the second such honor for Cooley in three weeks.

Cooley set a school record with 254 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries in the Hawks' 55-42 win at Belhaven College. The performance topped his 249-yard, four TD effort against NCAA Division II North Greenville in 2008.

The Bowdon, Ga., native now has a Mid-South high 1,310 yards on 202 carries in 2009 and has rushed for at least 200 yards on three separate occasions this season. Cooley needs just eight yards in Saturday's home contest with Bethel to reach 4,000 yards for his career. He ran for 1,558 yards last season.

Cooley's quartet of scores against the Blazers gave him 17 rushing touchdowns on the year - best in the Mid-South - and 50 rushing TDs in his career.

All told, Cooley holds every conceivable rushing record at Shorter and is averaging 131.0 yards per outing.

Cooley and the Hawks will close out the 2009 season on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Barron Stadium as they take on Bethel College at 1:30 p.m.

Shorter's 19 seniors, including Cooley, will be honored before the contest as part the Senior Day festivities.
