Men's golf tied for 23rd after Day 1 of Nationals

Plymouth, Ind. - On the first day of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' Men's Golf National Championship, the Shorter College Hawks finished the day shooting a 314, 29-over-par, to place at tied for 23rd going into tomorrow's second round.

Joaquin Correnti and Arvid Bengtson led the way for Shorter, each shooting a six-over-par (78) on the day. Alex Lantz and Elrick Van Eck followed with a 79, with Lantz shooting an impressive +1 on his last nine holes. Lohan Kotze rounded things out for the Hawks with an 82.

"This is a tough course and our guys have to really step up for tomorrow's round," said head coach Ahmad Hayat. "We're seeing the best golfers in the NAIA out here and if we play like I know we can, then we can be up there with them."

Shorter will tee off tomorrow at 3:21 p.m., for day two action. The field will be cut to the top 17 teams and 40 individuals (including ties) after 54 holes.
