Plymouth, Ind. - On the third day of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' Men's Golf National Championship, the Shorter College Hawks finished with a 16-over-par on the day, good enough for a 22nd place finish. Arvid Bengtson and Elrick Van Eck paced the Hawks, each shooting a one-over-par (73). Bengtson's three-day total of nine-over-par led all Shorter golfers. Joaquin Correnti and Alex Lantz each followed with a 79 on the day, and Lohan Kotze shot an 80. "Both Arvid and Elrick finished strong for us today allowing for some movement in our final rank," said head coach Ahmad Hayat. "This is the first time many of our guys have been to Nationals and next year, they know what to expect." Shorter finished the first day in 23rd and the second day in 25th place. Region XIII champion Lee University finished the tournament tied for 24th place, and cross-town rival Berry College was tied for 5th at the end of Shorter's round. The top 17 teams and 40 individuals will advance to the final round tomorrow. |
