Tazewell, Tenn. - Rainy conditions in the tri-state area held off long enough Tuesday afternoon for the Lincoln Memorial University men's golf team to secure victory in the annual LMU Fall Invitational at Woodlake Golf Course in Tazewell, Tennessee.

After nearly setting a South Atlantic Conference record at 16 under par as a team in the first day of the tournament on Monday, the Railsplitters battled nasty conditions and several hard charging teams to emerge nine strokes under par with a two-day team score of 567 to take the championship.

Shorter College was one of the teams that made a run at the Railsplitters in day-two of the tournament. Shorter finished with a score of 572, only five strokes back of Lincoln Memorial and four strokes under par for the course.

South Atlantic Conference opponents Tusculum College (581) and Wingate University (581) also made up several strokes on the lead in Tuesday's final round to finish in a tie for third place. NCAA Independent North Greenville University finished fifth with a team score of 585 while Anderson University posted a scored of 587 to cap the top half of the field.

The final six teams consisted of Catawba College in seventh place (590), Tiffin University in eighth place (592), Walters State Community College in ninth place (594), Brevard College in tenth (598), and the LMU Blue and Gray teams finished eleventh and twelfth respectively with scores of 613 and 703.

Shorter's Alex Lantz shot a final round of 68 to add to his first day round of 67 to finish with a final 135, nine strokes under, edging out Anderson University's Adam Sheriff as the tournament's Medalist. Lantz set a new Woodlake Golf Course record for 18 holes with Tuesday's round of 64 but it wasn't enough to overcome Lantz first round play. LMU's Josh Collins led the tournament after the first day's action with a score of 66 but finished one stroke over par on Tuesday with a 73 for a final 139. Collins second-day total dropped him into fourth place for the tournament at five under par.
