AUM Socccer streaks past Shorter

Oct. 10, 2007

Mongomery Ala. - (from AUM's Sports Information department) - The Auburn University Montgomery soccer team had goals from six different players in route to a 6-1 SSAC win over Shorter College.

AUM wasted little time in scoring the first of four first half goals as Steinthor Thorsteinsson took a pass that traveled well over half the length of the field and beat the Shorter defenders to the ball and stuck it in the net. That goal came in the fifth minute.

Senior Magnus Olafsson made it 2-0 with the penalty kick in the 30th minute.

Just two minutes later, Sveinn Jonsson took a pass from Olafsson for the third goal of the half. And in the 43rd minute defender Kari Arsaelsson was able to head in a corner kick from Mikel Herrero that made it 4-0.

In the second half, Shorter came out determined and actually out shot the Senators in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Kyle Timberlake helped Shorter avoid a shut out when he deflected a pass from Mark Beattie into the net for the Hawks lone score of the match.

AUM's Robert Milner and Levi Shiverdecker came off the bench to score the final two goals in the closing minutes.
