St. Louis, Mo. - Former Shorter College soccer standout Anthony O'Garro scored the first goal in AC St. Louis franchise history during the side's home opener and first-ever USSF Division II Pro League match last Saturday, April 17. O'Garro, who starred for four years for the Hawks and has earned a starting spot at left back for the first-year North American Soccer League (NASL) franchise, found the back of the net in the 43rd minute with a strike from just outside the penalty area that pierced the upper right-hand corner of the net. For Anthony O'Garro, that dream is becoming a reality. O'Garro, who completed his four-year Shorter soccer career this past November, has been signed by the North American Soccer League's (NASL) Athletic Club of St. Louis. Shorters mens and womens soccer teams were named Academic Team Award winners by the NSCAA
Hawk and Lady Hawk soccer named NSCAA Team Academic Award winners
Kansas City, Kan. - The Shorter College men's and women's soccer teams were honored as 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award Winners as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon. A total of 579 soccer teams (144 men, 335 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, therefore earning the NSCAA honor.
