Rome, Ga. - Last night in-between basketball games against Southern Wesleyan, the Shorter College Hawks soccer team celebrated their 2008 Southern States Athletic Conference regular season championship by unveiling their team banner, which will hang in the Winthrop-King Centre. This was one season with that will go down in the record books for the Hawks. Shorter won their first regular season conference title, and had first-time program wins over Berry, Lee University, Auburn-Montgomery and Southern Polytechnic. They peaked in the NAIA Top 25 standings mid-season reaching as high as No. 16. In addition to All-American recognition for Robert Whitnell, teammate Kyle Timberlake also received NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition, both on the national level. ![]() |
