Atlanta, Ga. - Shorter's Robert Whitnell was tabbed as the Southern States Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. Shorter finished the week with a pair of key wins against ranked Auburn-Montgomery and rival Berry College and now sit at first in the SSAC standings. Whitnell, who hails from Brentwood, England, had an exceptional match against cross-town Berry. In the 4-3 win, he scored all four goals, including the match-winner in overtime. The win was the first for the Hawks (8-4-1, 7-1) over Berry since the soccer program began at Shorter. Shorter also beat No. 15 AUM 2-0 on Sunday to move into first place in the league standings. Whitnell did not score or assist in that match. The Hawks travel to Central, S.C. this Wednesday for a SSAC showdown at 7 p.m. with the Southern Wesleyan Warriors. With the win, the Hawks will capture their first-ever regular season conference title. |
