Rio Grande, Ohio - The 2010 Mid-South Conference champion Shorter College Hawks and Lady Hawks placed 17 athletes on both the Mid-South All-Conference and All-Academic teams as announced by the league in a release yesterday afternoon.

Scott Byrd, Shorter's men's and women's head coach, earned the honor of MSC Men's Coach of the Year and Women's Coach of the Year. It is the second straight season that Byrd has swept the honor.

The men, who captured their third straight conference championship, saw seven athletes named to each squad while the women, winners of a second consecutive title, put ten athletes on each team.

In both cases, Shorter boasted the most honorees to the its respective All-Academic team.

On the men's side, Allen O'Neal, Peter Limo, N'aithan Scott, Nick Dodson, Montagious Brown, Anthony Taylor and Joseph Chisholm were named to the All-Mid South team.

Ben Anthony, Lois Godelar, Justin Griffin, O'Neal, Brenton Widener, Jeffrey Williams and Josh Gionnoni garnered Mid-South All-Academic accolades.

For the women, Brittany Sewell was named All-Conference in both the 100 and 200. She was joined on the All-MSC squad by Ashlie Stewartson, Kaitlin Shaw, Jessica Coons, Kennisha Holden, Justyna Mudy, Caitlin Brush, Tamara Francis and Dominique Woods.

Brush, Allison Holmes, Sarah Massey, Courtney Pike, Sewell, Shaw, Stewartson, Rachel Tucker, Natasha Woodruff and Woods earned All-Academic nods for the Lady Hawks.

Shorter will compete in the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Marion, Ind., on May 27-29.
