Mt. Berry, Ga. - Freshmen Doug Kalmbach and Eliud Ng'etich placed sixth and 11th overall, respectively, to help Shorter College to a third place finish at the Berry College Cross Country Invitational, an 8k event on Saturday morning in Mount Berry, Ga.

Kalmbach (26:17.18) and Ng'etich (26:50.11) highlighted a solid performance by the Hawks, who posted 89 points behind four top-25 performances.

Peter Limo placed 21st with a time of 27:16.18 and Jerad Godsave completed the course in 27:18.37 for a 23rd-place finish in the event that featured 174 competitors representing 20 teams.

Running unattached, Shorter freshman Fouad Rtaimate posted the 14th-best time, coming across the finish line in 26:53.98, and demonstrating the potential possessed by what many believe is one of the best incoming classes in Hawk cross country history.

Bryan College took first place with 44 points and Columbus State finished a close second with 61 points while featuring the meet's top-two individual finishers, Meshack Koyiaki and Nicholas Kering.

Host Berry College settled into the fourth position and fellow Southern States Athletic Conference foe Lee University rounded out the top-five.

Shorter College returns to competition on Oct. 3 when it travels to Louisville, Ky. for the Louisville Classic, which is scheduled for 9 a.m.
