Carson leads Hawks cross country to first in Southeast Classic

Mt. Berry, Ga. - The Shorter College Hawks cross country team took first place in the Southeast Classic hosted by Berry College on Saturday morning, with Jared Carson leading the way, finishing second overall with a time of 25:36.97 in the 8K run.

The Hawks had five runners finish in the top 20 on the day, with 20 schools competing in the Classic. Peter Limo was the second runner to cross the line, placing 6th with a 26:25.63, followed closely by Jared's brother Josh Carson in 8th with a 26:26.13. Rounding out the top five for Shorter were Steven Rich in 14th (26:37.28), and Martin Hernandez in 16th (26:41.46).

Five other Shorter runners competed: Ben Anthony (38th - 27:25.93), Brenton Widener (66th - 28:15.71), Josh Giannoni (71st - 28:33.05), Allen O'Neal (111th - 29:54.24) and Therron Smith (132nd - 30:40.80).

The Hawks had 41 points in the race, followed by second place University of the Cumberlands with 76 points and King College in third with 168 points.

After a weekend off, Shorter will run in the SSAC tournament on Nov. 8 in Rome, with the winner advancing to the NAIA National Tournament in Kenosha, Wis., on Nov. 22.
