![]() Hawk harriers place 18th in NAIA Nationals Vancouver, Wash. - Shorter College head men's cross country coach Jay Stephenson knew he had a talented, albeit young, group heading to Vancouver, Wash., to compete in the 2009 NAIA Cross Country National Championships. It is safe to say that Stephenson's rather inexperienced crew held its own in the national spotlight on Saturday. Paced by freshman Eliud Ng'etich's 32nd-place finish in a time of 25:59, Shorter's Hawk harriers secured an 18th-place team ranking at the season-ending event held on the 8k course at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. This time, however, the Hawks took a much different path to get there. Fresh from a strong performance at the National Qualifying Meet in Nashville, Tenn., where they once again emerged as the top team in the Southern States Athletic Conference, the No. 12-ranked Hawks head to the national meet in Vancouver, Wash., on Saturday, Nov. 21 with a new look and a new sense of team pride. The Hawks claimed their third straight SSAC crown while the Shorter women bested the field for a thrilling victory, avenging a close loss to Berry College in 2008.
