Rome, Ga. - In the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' top 25 preseason men's cross country poll, the Shorter College Hawks have received 112 points to place 24th in the nation. This is the first ranking that the team has received since the rebirth of the program in fall of 2006.

Last season, the Hawks took first place in the Region XIII and Southern States Athletic Conference tournament, where Shorter runners took first through fourth place. They went on to the National Championship in Kenosha, Wis., where the team finished 24th, with Martin Hernandez (Region Runner of the Year) taking 84th overall.

"I'm excited about starting the season and seeing the results of the hard work the guys have done over the summer," said head coach Jay Stephenson. "We're looking forward to reaping the benefits of some hard training and determination."

Defending National Champions Malone College (Ohio) took all 15 first place votes in the poll. The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, independents and unaffiliated groups. The ratings included those ballots submitted by these selected raters. The first regular season Top 25 poll will be announced on Sept. 9.
