Kristy Brown returns for her second season as assistant coach of the Shorter College women's basketball program. A native of Marietta, Ga., Brown is a former basketball standout at Stetson University in DeLand, Fla. At Stetson, Brown enjoyed a decorated career for the Hatters. Brown was named the 2005 Atlantic Sun Conference Most Valuable Player while leading her team to a league championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament where Stetson squared off with perennial Southeastern Conference (SEC) power Louisiana State University. That same year, Brown was also awarded the honor of Florida Fellowship of Christian Athletes' Athlete of the Year, as well as Stetson Female Athlete of the Year, and award she also garnered in 2004. Brown earned All-Conference first team nods in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons and still stands as the program's second leading scorer and rebounder. Off the court, Brown was named an Atlanta Area Boy Scouts Peach of an Athlete award winner and an ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District selection. Brown graduated from Stetson with a Bachelors of Education degree in 2004 and with her Master's in Special Education in 2006. Brown was inducted into the Lassiter High School Hall of Fame, where she remains the school's all-time leading scorer and rebounder while also holding the all-time mark for assists. |
