Cleveland, Tenn. - Katarina Martinovic was recognized for her impressive efforts on Wednesday night as she was awarded the Southern States Athletic Conference's Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Year award, along with being named to the All-Conference Team. Additionally, teammate Sandra Kostandinovic was named All-Conference and Megan Queen was named to the All-Freshmen Team.

Martinovic, a junior from Serbia-Montenegro and transfer from Spoon River Community College, led the Lady Hawks to a 20-win season, pulling a team-leading 450 points, and a 83% free-throw percentage. She added 97 rebounds, 71 assists and 41 steals in just her first season in a Shorter jersey. Her season-high 29 points came against Lee University on Jan. 19, when she went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.

Kostandinovic, like Martinovic, is from Serbia-Montenegro, and is a transfer from the University of Mobile. The senior wing player led the team in three-point percentage with 48.4%, and 400 points on the season. On Jan. 15, she was named the SSAC Player of the Week, following victories over Southern Wesleyan and Columbia. She averaged 13.3 points a game this season.

Queen is a freshman from Fannin County High School who saw increasing action for the Lady Hawks throughout the year. She had four double-digit rebound games this season, shot 49.3% from the field and totaled 177 points.

Additionally, three Lady Hawks were named to the All-Academic team: Dana Abrams, Heather Kilgore and Whitni Tucker. To be eligible for this award, you must be of sophomore standing or higher, with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.25.
