With two teams in Friday's finals, Shorter Cheerleading has a chance to bring two more national titles home to Rome

April 8, 2010

Daytona Beach, Fla. - With one day remaining in competition at the 2010 National Cheerleading Association (NCA) National Championships, the Shorter College All-Girl cheer squad is on the verge of history.

The 2009 NCA All-Girl II Intermediate national champion Cheer Hawks, who brought Shorter its first-ever team national championship last spring, emerged from Thursday's preliminary round in first place and with the No. 1 seed heading into Friday's finals at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.

If the All-Girl squad is able to hang onto its top ranking with another impressive effort tomorrow afternoon, it will mark the first back-to-back national championships in school history and, consequently, Shorter's second-ever team national crown.

In Cheer Division II, Shorter's Large Co-ed Cheer Hawks advanced to Friday's finals as the No. 4 seed out of the preliminary round. The Co-ed Hawks placed second in last year's national championships, narrowly missing out on what would have been an incredible double for Shorter's first-year competitive cheerleading program.

Each squad is making its second berth in as many opportunities into the NCA National Finals.
