Ft. Gaines, Ga. - In the Region XIII women's golf tournament, hosted by the University of Mobile, the nationally-ranked No. 9 Shorter College Lady Hawks took second place, with Daniela Vargas taking the individual title honors. Shorter finished with a three-day total of 987, 21 strokes behind first place, and No. 2 in the nation, Berry College. After the Lady Hawks shot a first day total of 327, the tournament was shortened to just one more day, with both the second and third rounds being held yesterday. A second round of 339, was followed by a 321 to finish things out for Shorter, ahead of Mobile by two strokes. Ahmreen Humayun was second for Shorter, finished tied for seventh with a +32, followed by Johanna Babra with a +41 (tied for 14th). Cristy Pak and Ashley Trenz finished things out for Shorter with a +45 and a +55. "We had a good first day and a good third round," said head coach Ahmad Hayat. "The second round pushed us a little bit, but we hope to fix some of the small things and head into Nationals with a very strong group." The Lady Hawks will now await a bid for the NAIA National Tournament, held May 20-23 in San Diego, Calif. |
