Lake San Marcos, Calif. - On the final day and fourth round of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' Women's Golf National Championship, the Shorter College Lady Hawks took 14th place overall, finishing with a three day total of 1337 (329-332-334-342). Oklahoma City took first with a 1267. Daniela Vargas led the Lady Hawks with a four-day total of 318 (79-78-79-82), finishing tied for ninth overall. Johanna Babra and Ahmreen Humayun finished in second and third for Shorter with scores of 325 (81-79-83-82) and 338 (80-86-85-87) respectively. "It was a tough final round for us," said head coach Ahmad Hayat. "For our first trip to Nationals, we performed with some of the best in the nation. I'm proud of some of the things we accomplished and look forward to making a repeat trip next year." Rounding things out for the Lady Hawks were Cristy Pak with a 357 (90-89-87-91) and Brittany Daniel with a 359 (89-89-89-92). Shorter finished just two strokes behind the two teams tied for 12th and 23 strokes behind 9th place Berry College. The Lady Hawks finished the season ranked 9th in the final NAIA National Poll, and Region XIII runner-ups. |
