Rome, Ga. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the qualifiers for the 14th Annual NAIA Women's Golf National Championship, with the Shorter College Lady Hawks receiving an at-large bid. The tournament will be held at Lake San Marcos Country Club in San Diego, Calif., May 20-23, 2008. This year's championship will feature 23 teams, including 13 region champions and 10 at-large bids, and five individual qualifiers. The Lady Hawks finished the season as the Region XIII runner-ups and ranked No. 9 in the final NAIA National poll. Shorter's Daniela Vargas hopes to continue her national dominance as the Lady Hawks travel to California. In the Region XIII tournament, she captured her second straight low medalist honors, after taking first in the Tusculum-hosted McAmis Memorial Tournament at the beginning of April. Vargas, a sophomore from Ibague, Colombia, took two additional titles at the beginning of the season: first in the Birmingham-Southern Ann Rhoads Invitational, and the following week in the SCAD Invitational. |
