Rome, Ga. - Candace Edwards and Pauline Van Der Henst each scored two goals and Mallory Barnes collected three assists to lead Shorter College to a 7-0 win over Columbia (S.C.) College at Darlington School.

With the victory, the Lady Hawks improve to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in the Southern States Athletic Conference while Columbia falls to 2-4-2 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Edwards, who has 10 goals in five matches, struck twice within two minutes in the opening half to stake the Lady Hawks a 2-0 advantage just 12 minutes into the match.

She now stands just two goals away from matching Van Der Henst's single-season record for goals.

Van Der Henst, still battling back from a broken collarbone suffered in the preseason, matched that feat in the second stanza, scoring her first two goals of the year in the 50th and 52nd-minutes to extend the Lady Hawks' lead to 6-0.

Barnes was effective in the middle of the field, combining with Rachel Wood to assist on Edwards' first strike, and then finding Van Der Henst for her two tallies in the second half, the second coming on a perfectly placed free kick into the box that Van Der Henst headed past Columbia keeper Ashley Eckler.

Kacie Farrer, Adrian Hicks and Alex Yancy also reached the scorebook as the Lady Hawks out shot Columbia 27-4 while launching 16 shots on net.

The Lady Hawks recorded some spectacular goals in evening their record.

The Lady Hawks are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3 when they host Belhaven College in a 1:30 p.m. kickoff at Darlington School.
