Sept. 6, 2007

Rome, Ga. - Hosting Southern Wesleyan, the Shorter women forced an overtime decision but lost 3-2 while the men were shut out 3-0.

Both games also counted as the first Southern States Athletic Conference contests for both teams.

The Lady Hawks were able to send their game against Southern Wesleyan into overtime but they weren't able to come through in the end.

After heading into the second half up 1-0, Shorter battled the Lady Warriors until the visitors were up 2-1.

After two failed attempts in the final minutes to score, a corner kick by Mallory Barnes was headed into the Southern Wesleyan goal by Pauline Van Der Henst with 30 seconds left to tie the game.

But the Lady Warriors scored with 7:30 left in the first overtime period to end the game and hand Shorter their third loss.

The men meanwhile struggled to find their footing at the goal, but played a tough match against SWU.

Southern Wesleyan scored twice in the first 45 minutes but were kept to just one goal in the second half.

The Lady Hawks will play Berry College Saturday at 2 p.m. at Berry's Ford Field while both Shorter College teams will be in action Monday as they host Emmanuel beginning at 4 p.m.
