Rome, Ga. - Taking two wins in completely different fashions, the Shorter College softball team swept Missouri Baptist in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday at Alto Park.
The pair of victories -- a close 4-3 battle and a 10-0 win in five innings -- gives the Lady Hawks an 11-3 record as they have won seven of their last eight games.
In Saturday's first game, Shorter struggled in the first two innings and was down 3-1.
The Lady Hawks settled down, however, and scored three more runs in the final three innings.
Becca Thomas picked up the win on the mound, giving up five hits and striking out nine batters in the complete game effort.
Lindsey McDaniel got a hit in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded to push across the game-winning run.
In game two, Munson pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out five and walking one.
The freshman went on to spark the Lady Hawks' scoring with a three-run home run in the fourth inning.
"Libby had a really good day today," Shorter coach Melanie Carter said. "And we had all of our scoring in the fourth and fifth innings, which is usual for us right now."
Kerry Hammond capped off the run-ruled shortened game with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. The senior went 3-for-5 for the day.
Shorter is at Faulkner for a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader on Monday.
