Kansas City, Mo. - In the first national poll released on March 19 from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Shorter College Lady Hawks softball team (21-5; 3-1 conference) has been ranked 8th in the nation.

Last week, the Lady Hawks went on an impressive 10-2 run, sweeping NCAA Div. II West Florida, and winning five straight games in the Gulf Shores Invitational. Two of those teams, Houston-Victoria and Columbia (Mo.), both received a top 25 ranking. Shorter lost in the championship bracket against No. 5 Savannah College of Art and Design.

In the Region XIII ranking, Shorter was placed 2nd, below the 2006 national champions, NAIA No. 6 University of Mobile.
