Thomas named SSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week, helps set new NAIA record

Atlanta, Ga. - In the weekly Southern States Athletic Conference softball awards, Shorter College's Becca Thomas has been named the Pitcher of the Week following two wins last week over Brewton-Parker and Brenau. She was also a part of a pitching squad that broke the NAIA record for most consecutive opponent scoreless innings.

Thomas began the week with a win over Brewton-Parker, where she pitched the complete game shutout, giving up just two hits, while walking none and striking out five. On Sunday, she pitched a second straight seven-inning shutout against the 13th-ranked team in the nation, Brenau University, giving up seven hits while striking out two.

Thomas was also part of a run of 44 consecutive shutout innings for Shorter, along with Lady Hawk Libby Munson - a stat that will stand as an NAIA record. Before a late eighth inning run for Brenau on Sunday, the Lady Hawks (23-9, 12-2 SSAC) had not allowed their opponent to score since their second game against conference-foe Auburn-Montgomery on March 21.

The 45 consecutive scoreless inning totals:

March 21st - AUM - 3 Innings

Thomas is currently 11-3 on the season with a 1.60 ERA in over 87 innings of work. Opponents are batting .206 against her, and she has 54 strikeouts and 16 walks.

The Lady Hawks continue conference play tomorrow at the Alto Park Softball Complex with a 4 p.m. double header against Emmanuel College.
