Munson named SSAC Softball Freshman of the Year, six named first-team all-conference

Rome, Ga. - At the Southern States Athletic Conference's Softball Championship Banquet held last night at Rome's Forum, the Shorter College Lady Hawks' Libby Munson was named Freshman of the Year, six were named All-Conference First Team, two were named All-Conference Second Team, four were named All-Freshmen, and four were named to the All-Academic Team.

Munson, a freshman from Suwanee, Ga., is 23-2 this season for the Lady Hawks with an ERA of 1.58 with 160 innings pitched. In addition to her outstanding performace on the mound, she also carries her weight on the plate, batting for an impressive .424 with 16 doubles this season. Her season-high 12 strikeouts came against Union College on March 1.

Making the All-Conference First Team from Shorter were Munson, Kandi Bruno, Kerry Hammond, Lakyn Newton, Jessica Sanders, and Becca Thomas. The Lady Hawks' accolades continued to add up, as Lindsey McDaniel and Kali Milford were named to the Second Team. For the first year Lady Hawks, Amanda Albertson, Libby Munson, Jordan Najafi, and Monica West were awarded All-Freshman honors.

On the academic side of the awards, Liz Clark, Hammond, McDaniel, and Thomas all received All-Academic honors.

Shorter plays in game four of the SSAC Conference Tournament at Alto Park Softball Complex at 4 p.m., today against Southern Wesleyan. The tournament continues through Saturday.
