Mobile, Ala. - Following the ups-and-downs of the 2007 season, the women's tennis team received an at-large bid to the NAIA National tournament in Mobile, Ala., after defeating Lee University to advance to the semi-finals of the Region XIII tournament. "It was a tough season for us," said head coach Orville Adams. "The girls really worked hard and understood what it took to win close matches. Defeating Lee was a big morale booster and was a good way to end out the year." The team started out the season with a near-upset over defending national champions Auburn University-Montgomery. With one of the toughest schedules in the NAIA, the Lady Hawks were able to finish the season ranked 13th. They advanced to nationals, where a tough Union (Ky.) University team narrowly pulled away and ended Shorter's season with 5-4 win. "Our final match was a tough blow, but it's all about learning from your mistakes and making the most of them," said Adams. "Next year, we know what to look for and how to better face some of these teams." |
