Lady Hawks take second in the Mid-South Conference track championships

Williamsburg, Ky. - The women's track team finished six points away from first place in the Mid-South Conference championship on Saturday, taking the second spot with 208 points. Cumberlands finished first (214), and Lindsey Wilson rounded out the top three (111).

Shorter's 4-by-800 and 4-by-400 relay teams both set new conference marks with times of 8:00.87 and 3:18.37 respectively.

The Lady Hawks' eight conference records included two each from senior K'Ianca Dupree and freshman Jessica Coons.

Dupree won the 200 (24.26) and the 400 (56.16) while Coons won the 100 hurdles (16.06) and 400 hurdles (1:06.88).

Ashley Cousin was first in the 100 meters with a new Mid-South mark of 12.34 seconds while Cedartown's Maria Addison set a record in the triple jump with a leap of 10.69 meters and former Model standout Whitney Ringer took the long jump with a record of 5.21 meters.

Shorter's 4-by-100 relay team comprised of Cousin, Dupree, Addison and Rhonda Hammond won with a time of 47.60 seconds to set the conference mark.

Also winning their events but finishing shy of new records were the 4-by-400 relay team (4:05.44) and Sade Davidson, who took the javelin throw with a distance of 30.72 meters.

Shorter will take a few days off before getting ready for Georgia Invitational in Athens on May 9. They will then prepare for the NAIA Outdoor National Track and Field Championships in St. Louis, Mo., on May 22-24.
