Volleyball beats Reinhardt to advance in SSAC tourney



The Lady Hawks will face Lee University tomorrow at 4 p.m.

Mt. Vernon, Ga. - The Shorter College Lady Hawks volleyball team downed the Reinhardt Eagles on Thurs. afternoon, 3-1, to advance to the second round winner's bracket of the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament at Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon, Ga.

The Lady Hawks took the first game 33-31, before Reinhardt tied things up by beating Shorter, 28-30. Shorter took the next two, 30-16 and 30-28, to advance.

Kate Puckett led the team in kills with 16, followed by Kasi Runion with 15 and Jenny Mealer with 12. In the last two games, Ashley Walton delivered a strong 10 kills for Shorter.

Amy Marvin had eight kills and 20 digs, and Kristy Walker led with 62 assists.

"Our girls overcame a few bad breaks to take this one," said head coach Jon Moseley. "We have to cut down on some of our small errors and communicate better with one another for our game tomorrow."

The Lady Hawks will play Lee University tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament.
